Golf Tips for Beginners
While there are many sites offering golf tips for beginners many miss a few areas that are important for new golfers. Here are my golf tips for beginners.
Clubs
It essential that you have the right sized clubs for your height. Many younger players start using their parents clubs, but because the length is wrong it could lead to bad swing habits.
Basic Rules and Etiquette
Take the time to learn and observe the basic rules and etiquette on the course. Playing with an experienced player who takes the time to explain things like know how to enter and leave a sand trap, how to rake the sand etc is invaluable. If you don’t know the basic rules and etiquette on the course you will upset others and may even get banned from the course.
Swing
While many new golfers try to teach themselves how to swing, this can be a long, frustrating process. One of the best golf tips for beginners is to get a couple of lessons in the fundamentals of the swing from someone who knows the mechanics of a good swing. This will set you up to have a correct swing which will improve your game quickly, which will set you up for a lifetime of enjoyment in the great game of golf.
The important things to look at in your swing are the takeaway, body rotation and follow through.
For any golf shot the proper takeaway is crucial to the rest of the swing. Many new players make the mistake of bringing the club back too fast by whipping the club back with their hands. This will not produce a good shot.
Body rotation is a area that many new players have problems. Allow the shoulders to turn while bring the club back followed by the hips. Then at the top of the backswing use your hips to begin the process of the downswing, not the hands.
Another one of the golf tips for beginners is the follow through. Some shots require a full follow through while others don’t and learning which is essential for good shot selection. A common mistake is to lift the head to soon as it is only natural to try and see where the ball goes. This produces an awkward motion that can affect the overall performance of the shot, avoid the temptation until the follow through is completed.
Practice
The best of all the golf tips for beginners is to practice, practice and practice. Golf is a game that demands hands on training. You will never master the game unless you invest the time and energy to learning how to use each club and understand how it reacts to your swing.
